How is everyone's weekend so far? mine has been very relaxing and I've been loving it! Friday night I had dinner with one of my closest friends and spent hours eating good food and amazing chocolate cake for dessert as we caught up. Last night I went out for wings and then drinks later on with The Boy and two other couples and the wings put me into a food coma as I woke up at 11 am today lol! that is totally out of the norm for me but it felt soooo good :)
In my last post I mentioned that I had my very first experience with an epilator so that is what I wanted to tell you about today. This whole thing started when I was getting ready for my cottage trip (also mentioned in my last post). I knew the weather would be nice enough to wear shorts and possibly bathing suits but what I didn't want to have to do was shave my legs every day, which I normally have to do in the summer.
The first option I thought about was waxing but then I remembered my horrifying experience with waxing my legs 2 days before my graduation. OMG let me tell you the skin on my legs was raised and they looked like tomatoes and I am in no way exaggerating it was actually rather scary and I had to go speak to a pharmacist to see what I could do. Anyways it took two days of icing, and slathering my legs with Aloe Vera gel and sleeping directly in front of a fan to get my legs to look semi-normal again. SO needless to say the thought of waxing quickly disappeared.
The next option was hair removal creams. I had already tried a couple of them and was left totally unsatisfied as they really didn't remove anything. They were messy and stinky and also I don't really like the idea of putting all those chemicals on my body.
So the next option was an epilator. I know I know I was just as terrified and the thought did make me cringe. I did however remember a friend raving about depilating and once you got past the first time, it would be amazing.
I discussed the idea with my mom, whose initial reaction was not that encouraging! lol. She looked at me as if I was crazy and then said "think about the PAIN" which made me laugh and doubt myself at the time. Then I just thought you know what I am going to just try it and if it's too much then I'll just return it.
The first one I purchased was Panasonic Epilator with Skin Protector System (ESWS20P), which I purchased from Best Buy and it looked like this:
looks all pretty and harmless doesn't it? It sure is pretty but not harmless, well at least not the first time around. I really wanted this one to work but sadly it wasn't meant for me. I really needed one that I would be about to use on the bikini line as well but the instructions inside the box specifically told me not to :( It has a shaver for that area and the epilator is meant for legs and arms only. I still gave it a try and I was not impressed at all as it really didn't remove much of the hair.
AFter that I went online to read more about epilators and after some research I found one from Remington I and was excited to find out that it was available at Wal-Mart. I read about many epilators that sounded amazing but none were available for purchase in Canada. I paid a visit to my local Wal-Mart and purchased the "smooth&silky complete epilator kit". The kit comes with two heads. One is the main one with 42 tweezers and the other is the precision head which is small and meant for small specific areas. It also comes with a storage pouch and a little brush for cleaning the heads once you are done.
On the box it also claims that its the "world's only moisturizing comfort technology" I don't really know about that though. Now let me get into the details of my experience. First thing you need to know is that THIS WILL HURT. I am not going to lie and say it's not that bad. Some areas will hurt less than others, such as your shin area. The areas that will hurt a lot ( at least for me) were the ankle area and also the calf area near your knees. AND the area that will hurt the most is the bikini line. But I just sucked it up and went for it, with multiple breaks in the middle lol. It took me a total of 3 days (not continuously, are you crazy?!!) to finish both legs. I did small areas each day so that my skin would get used to it, I read this tip on various websites when I was doing my research. My skin did get irritated and red, which was to be expected but the redness went away in 24 hours. Now on the box in promises up to 6 weeks hair-free results but in the booklet inside it tells you that you should epilate once a week the first couple of weeks and then every 2 weeks or as needed. Two days after I finished depilating I shaved a little bit as I had missed a few hairs but after that my legs were completely hair free for a week which is so impressive for me. The area I was least impressed with was the bikini line, the head of the epilator is too big for the area and the smaller precision head isn't as effective so it took me longer to finish the area and I didn't have the greatest results but I have a feeling that it takes a bit of getting used to and learning how to properly use the epilator in order to get amazing results. Yesterday I noticed there was some hair growing back and so I took out the epilator and let me tell you this time the pain was one tenth of the first time! All together I was pretty impressed with this epilator and the results of depilating in general. My only complaint would be the bikini line struggle but I'm going to give it a couple of more tries and I'll let you know how that works out. So there you have it, my experience and opinions on epilators. If you have any questions let me know and I'll be glad to answer them to the best of my ability.
I'm really sorry about the delay in posts. This past weekend was victoria day weekend here which meant a long weekend yay!
I had an amazing time. I went away to a cottage with 16 other people! SO MUCH FUN! I want to be back there now :( The weather was amazing and everything was so green and gorgeous :)
But that meant that all of last week was spent shopping for food and such after work and organizing everything for the weekend and that is why I haven't been posting but now I'm back to my regular schedule and I have some fun stuff to talk about and the first post will be about my experience with my first epilator! ouch! I know lol. That post will probably be up tomorrow or friday :)
oh and I don't know if any of you were ever Oprah fans but I used to watch her show sometimes and I watched her last show ever today and it kinda made me sad, oh well, she had an amazing 25 years! I admire her work and success if nothing else.
I'm off to bed now, even though it's only 10:30 pm here lol I'm exhausted.
ps. Thank you for everyone who has started following me and welcome :)
Hope you all have a lovely thursday :)
It was so cold here today that I actually considered bringing out my Uggs again!!!!!
people were bundled up in jackets and some were wearing gloves and this is very much like my view every time I would look out the window at work.
Yup! disgusting. I know I mention the weather in every post but it's really bringing me down and all I want to do is .... nothing!
Last night however was a happier time. I went to a birthday party for a 1 year old. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it on this blog but I LOVE BABIES. Yes I am baby crazy and yes it sometimes scares my friends and family but I don't care. I was so down yesterday and feeling rather upset but then I went to this party and there were so many toddlers and babies that I couldn't feel sad even if I tried. I had so much fun playing with them and just generally being around them because they just have this ability to bring joy and happiness!
The evening ended with happy smiles and blue icing everywhere! and I mean everywhere even at the bottom of teeny tiny feet lol.
yup there was a lot of that going on!
This is what I wore:
This is what my makeup and hair looked like :)
Today was not as happy. I woke up and the house was freezing and I was just in a mood. I work with sometimes very ill people so I have to just suck it up and forget about my own problems and just be there for others. So that is what I did and my day got a little bit better after my supervisor gave me my feedback sheet and I got some really good reviews. I still have a lot to improve and work on but these comments are just encouragement for me to keep getting better.
One moment that really got to me was when a patient looked at me while my coworker was doing her examination and I gave her a smile and she said "thank you for your sweet smile, I'm just really nervous" and that really reminded me the power of a smile.
So please do give out more of these, they're free but powerful
It's a gloomy sunday here and this kind of weather makes me want to curl up in bed with a book and stay there the whole day. But real life usually gets in the way of that, boo, lol.
Last night i went to dinner at Alice Fazooli's which is one of my favourite places to eat at. The atmosphere is pretty cool and the food is good too. I had the best warm chocolate cake with caramel and chocolate sauce, YUM!
My little piece of heaven :)
sooo good just thinking about it is making me want more but it's summer time (well almost) and time to pull out the bathing suits so gotta watch how much of chocolatey goodness I consume.
I am so glad it is friday! This week exhausted me and now I have killer cramps (is that TMI? sorry) so I'm just happy to curl up in bed and catch up with some of my favourite blogs :)
I was browsing the net a few days ago and I came across these pictures and I just thought I would share the gorgeousness (is that even a word?) with you...enjoy!

How HOT are these?
summer please come sooner, Thank you!
Have an amazing Saturday :)
"To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong."
Hope you all had a great tuesday! Mine was pretty good, I was really tired at work and the day seemed to drag on but at lunch time I went to see Dairy Queen break the Guinness World Record for the largest ice cream cake to raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children. Ice cream cake for a good cause? YES PLEASE!
As the cake was done they started giving pieces away. When me and a friend got there the line up was soooo long we thought it would never happen but we lined up anyway and realized the line was moving pretty fast. We ended up getting our cake and OMG it was so so good!
yes, they were on ladders...
This bad boy was made of 9000 kg of ice cream with lots of icing and spongecake!
My piece, yum!
My day only got better when I got home and this sweet treat was waiting for me :)
How cute is this!
There was a lot of attention to detail, which I love and appreciate :)
If you don't know what LuxeBox is you should check them out here http://www.loosebutton.com/
It is basically a subscription service, where you sign up and if you would like a box for the month it is $10 plus tax and shipping is free!
The customer service is pretty great too ;)
And these are my goodies :)
I'm so excited to try them and they're all rather large for sample sizes which is great.
The little card reminds me of an old school ice cream shop (maybe I just got ice cream on the brain today lol) or a bakery, so cute!
I will do a review on each product as I try them :)
I know that it's been a few days since I last blogged but I started my clinical training which is essentially like a full time 8 hour job. It's tiring and extra stressful since I'm a student and learning a million things a day but I'm kinda loving it. Anywho all of that meant that I would get home, have dinner and be in bed by 8 pm lol yes I know ridiculous but I wake up at 5:30!
Just thought I would tell you about a few things I'm loving at the moment :)
♥ Sunny weather! It had been so rainy, cold and just depressing all this time here and now the weather is getting warmer and today I enjoyed a picnic with my family and our friends which was just so much fun!
I love being outdoors, hiking, playing soccer and getting a bit of colour so I don't look like Casper the friendly ghost ;)
♥ Having free time to read again. I love reading. I could do it for hours and hours and not get tired. I love entering another world through the book and just being there for a little while. Some of my favorite authors are Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Margaret Atwood and so on.
The book that I am currently reading is The girl who kicked the hornet's nest. This is the third book in the Millennium series. Most of you will probably have heard of The girl with the dragon tattoo which is the first book in the series. These books are seriously addictive. When I was reading the second book, once I passed the half way point I couldn't put the book down until I finished it, which was about 2 days.
I've just been going around telling everyone to read these books and I've succeeded in convincing many many people :) So give them a try if you get the chance to, I promise you won't regret it.
♥ The Vampire Diaries! I know I know lol. I got sucked it I couldn't help it. Everyone kept talking about it and I got curious. I'm watching episode 3 of season 2 right now. I am actually not quiet sure how I feel about the whole vampire frenzy as I was never really into Twilight which pretty much started it. I do enjoy watching this show though :)
Doesn't hurt that there's a lot of hotness on the show ;)
Tell me about some of the things you are loving :)
I just got home from a super long and exhausting day. After work today I went to see Fast Five with The Boy and yes that was MY pick lol. I love action movies. So this one was just as ridiculous as the rest of Fast and the Furious movies. Just completely ridiculous and fueled by testosterone but daaaaayuummm it was a HOT movie! I enjoyed it, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea, i mean one of the main actors has named himself as an explosive material so you be the judge of that haha.
Today was actually kind of an eye opening day. Working in a hospital with ill people all around me all day is actually a rather humbling experience specially when I see some fighting through it with smiles on their faces and joking around. It makes me realize how short life can be and that I should really be enjoying my life as much as I can with the people I love. I should be doing things I love and getting as much as I can out of each day. I mean I've been told this before and knew it but it's very different when you are in a situation where you actually feel it.
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
we've been promised sunny weather (fingers crossed) :)
I just wanted to show you my new love!
My new Aldo babies :)
(and wow this picture really doesn't do them justice, they're actually a pinky nude)
Spring I'm so ready for you!
These are my first pair of wedges that I'm planning on wearing on a daily basis. I'm usually more of a flats girl but lately I've just really been into wearing heels and dresses so I'm just embracing it! I searched for so long until I found these since I refuse to wear shoes during the day that are not comfortable. Don't get me wrong when I go out at night or parties I always wear heels but they usually hurt my feet and then the next day my legs are always so sore lol.
I had a full day of shopping yesterday and i'm so tired so today I'm planning on just relaxing a bit and cleaning my room and organizing it a since I'll be starting work tomorrow and probably won't get a chance to do much cleaning.
